ACT Online Practice Sessions through Discord-
Hello, my name is Mason Soun, Calculus Teacher at St. Mary's Episcopal School, here in Memphis.
I, along with some of my high-school Calculus students as volunteers, started running free ACT sessions at White Station High School this year. However, due to the coronavirus outbreak, we have been forced to host our ACT sessions virtually through Discord. Even if the ACT has been postponed for the near future, we still wish to help the greater Memphis area through the ways that we can. Here is the most important information:
1. We host a session each Tuesday and Thursday on Discord, from 4-6 PM.
2. The sessions are completely free and any high-school student can participate. Our virtual sessions are text-based (and do not include voice or video conferencing). Basically we try to clarify any questions that a student might have on the ACT, whether that be general strategies or particular ACT questions.
3. I have vast experience with preparing students for standardized STEM exams. For example, over 87% of my BC Calculus students made a perfect score of 5 on last year's AP Exam. For the other half of the ACT exam, my main SMS student volunteers have an average of over 35 (out of 36) on both the English section and Reading sessions. But more importantly, they are eager to help others, and those students that have attended our live sessions have benefitted from my volunteers' combination of patience, kindness, and understanding. My main senior volunteer recently received the Morehead-Cain Scholarship at UNC, highlighting her great capacity to help others learn.
4. In order to join the Discord, please have a student follow the following link: https://discord.gg/arCKCKm
5. Discord at first might be tricky to use. We hope that any interested student give us patience as we help them learn how to use the platform. I am attaching a pdf with instructions on how to use Discord for these ACT sessions.
6. We recommend that students complete practice (found on the Discord, as shown in the attached pdf) before the sessions. We also recommend that students use a computer during the session.

Mrs. Herron's Senior SAILS Students-
SAILS Students and parents,
As we work through this crisis, we are continually looking for ways to help our students. The SAILS course has been modified to allow students to work without the normal teacher interventions. All Quiz and Review assignments have been set to unlimited attempts. As students work through the material, they can skip over the Module Review, AI Quiz, and Module Test and continue working in the next module. Assignments still have to be completed in order. Reviews and AI Quizzes will have to be completed at a later date. Module Tests must be completed when they can be proctored. Students, if you need help, please contact your SAILS teacher or use the Question Helps and Videos in the course. Mrs. Herron's email address-herronjl@scsk12.org

Mrs. Underwood & Ms. Niedens-
Dear Geometry Parents and Students,
We hope that this message finds you well. Thank you for bearing with us through this situation. We have put together what we think is necessary for you to complete Geometry and move into the next level of math next year. This includes all of the sections in chapter 8 and chapter 10 of our current Geometry textbook. As of the sending of this message, this is NOT a required assignment, however, we feel that it is important that you know these concepts for future success in your math and science classes as well as on the ACT. On our websites, you will find completed copies of notes, blank copies of the homework assignments, review worksheets over the same material and answer keys to the reviews and homework.

We apologize for not getting information to you any sooner, but we were wanting to wait until we had more information we could give you.
SCS has new videos that are being streamed on C19TV and all of our communications channels. They also have some exciting partnerships in place with major broadcast outlets to make these lessons more accessible for our whole community. WMC-TV 5's affiliate stations, including Bounce-TV, are broadcasting lessons daily. There are also weekly lessons being posted by the district for math and English. Those would be a good source of problems to practice as well. You can find those documents on the SCS website at http://www.scsk12.org/instructionalresources/index#/.
At this time Mrs. Underwood is not planning on any Zoom or Teams meetings, but again you can contact her via email or Remind.
Algebra 2 summer work is posted on our websites as well as the WSHS website (whitestation.org). It will be expected that you complete this work prior to the first day of school (both traditional and honors).
If you have any questions on the work that we have suggested to complete, please email or send a message on Remind and we will be happy to try and answer them for you. We wish you the best as we move through this unprecedented time.
Sincerely,
Ms. Niedens and Mrs. Underwood

¡Hola chicos y chicas! I am still here and available to assist in case you need me (olaizmc@scsk12.org). I hope you and your families are safe and well.
Quarter 3 ended on March 13, 2020 and quarter 4 is open; therefore, students should be working (and hopefully working ahead!). Most of you did exceptionally well during Quarter 3!. Although SCS has not released an official day for students/teachers to physically return to school, our district is working on ways to provide resources to keep all of our students academically engaged while decisions are made. Educational resources can be found by clicking on the www.scsk12.org website and also I encourage you to stay engaged and to work on ACT Prep as well as Spanish. Here are some useful websites that you may explore. Have fun!
- Learn Spanish with Free Online Spanish Podcasts
- Podcasts are one of my favorite ways to learn a language. You can take them with you wherever you go. Then, anytime you have a spare moment you can listen to native speakers teach you their language.
- There are a lot of Spanish language podcasts out there, but not many that provide a complete language learning program to help you build up your skills. I prefer podcasts that provide a step-by-step Spanish class. Here are a few worth checking out:
- Spanish Pod 101: Innovative Language, who produce this podcast, are my go-to publisher when I’m starting to learn a new language. It’s free to sign up and learn the basics. You’ll have to pay for more advanced lessons and premium material, although it’s worth it.
- Coffee Break Spanish: Get a daily dose of Spanish in just a few minutes with this popular podcast.
- Show Time Spanish: From the same folks that brought you Coffee Break Spanish, this series is for intermediate and advanced learners.
- Finally Learn Spanish – Beyond the Basics: Perfect for those who studied Spanish in the past and need focused practise on listening and speaking.
- Insta Spanish Lessons: This popular Spanish language podcast features weekly lessons for students of all levels.
- Notes in Spanish: A husband (British) and wife (Spanish) team share lessons on real spoken Spanish for beginner, intermediate and advanced learners.
- Learn Spanish with La Casa Rojas: Intermediate and advanced Spanish learners will appreciate that in this podcast absolutely no English is spoken.
Other useful websites:
- www.quizlet.com Great website to review your vocabulary words
- http://www.bowdoin.edu/~eyepes/newgr/ats/ Concise outline of essential grammar structures
- www.studyspanish.com A great website with grammar lessons and quizzes so you can test yourself
